Pilgrimage to Armenia

Armenia

‘Armenian is the language to speak to God’ Lord Byron

One of the most mysterious and intriguing countries in the world, Armenia, set like a jewel in the South Caucasus region of Eurasia, has a heritage stretching back to the early days of Christianity. Our 7-day tour will begin in Yerevan, the country’s capital and one of the world’s oldest inhabited cities, where sights will include the moving Mother Armenia monument with its panoramic views and the moving Armenia Genocide Museum. The heart of Armenia’s religious life, Echmiadzin (meaning "Only Begotten, Descended" ) will be a highlight, visiting the church founded by St.Gregory after a vision of the descending Holy Spirit as well as Lake Sevan, the largest mountain lake in the world. Driving south to Khor Virap, we will enjoy astonishing views of Mt Ararat, a sacred mountain to the Armenians and traditional resting place of Noah’s Arc, as well as seeing the former cave prison of St.Gregory the Illuminator. Time will be spent at thriving and ancient monasteries, the heartbeat of the country, including two UNESCO sites - Sanahin and Haghbat monasteries located on either side of Debed River Canyon and Geghard Monastery, which, legend has it, houses the spear that pierced Christ’s side. This is a truly unique and unforgettable tour into a friendly, exotic and age-old country which much to offer the pilgrim traveller.
