Kasbah Tamadot is, quite simply, incredible and extraordinary. Situated in the High Atlas Mountains this beautiful retreat is the dream of Sir Richard Branson and his parents. Decorated and designed in true Moroccan fashion, Kasbah Tamadot is luxurious, but it is also atmospheric and special. With indoor and outdoor pools, a turkish hammam and spa, gourmet cuisine, charming staff and stunning views there is nothing left wanting at Kasbah Tamadot – luxury at its very best.
Set on the side of the rolling hills of the High Atlas Mountains, Kasbah Tamadot enjoys outstanding views in every direction. Extensive renovation of the building has taken several years of thoughtful and meticulous work in order to create the most perfect and magical retreat. The original complex of spaces has been maintained at the same time as cleverly combining traditional Moroccan colours, textures and patterns with a more contemporary treatment to the interior architecture thus creating something both unique and stylish.
There is a maze of staircases, courtyards, rooms and gardens as well as indoor and outdoor swimming pools, tennis courts, gymnasium and hammam. The gardens have been planted with an array of evergreen and flowering plants and guests can enjoy spectacular views to the valley below and the mountains above from the impressive infinity pool with its upper terrace surrounded by Greek columns, grand staircase and a bar. Inside is a dark blue tiled pool with views of the lush gardens outside as well as a traditional Hammam with a suite of steam rooms.

Each of the rooms at Kasbah Tamadot is individual with artefacts collected from all over Africa, India and The Far East adding to the design and character of each room. The feeling is of a house rather than a hotel so that guests can completely relax and unwind in an exotic yet natural environment. Newly designed pieces of furniture such as four poster beds and a small tiled cabinet containing a fridge in each room mix well with wooden ceilings, ancient chests and Moroccan poufs and sofas. Bathrooms are equally exotic but not ostentatious or over-the-top. In some rooms the baths are free-standing whilst in others there are large decorative openings into a sunken plastered Moroccan bath and everywhere the lighting is atmospheric with a wonderfully timeless ambience.
With an intimate fireside bar for pre-dinner cocktails, a stunning dining area complete with terrace dining and breathtaking views and a private rooftop terrace for up to eight guests, delicious meals can be enjoyed in a variety of places. The fantastic chef at Kasbah Tamadot has worked in Raymond Blanc’s kitchen as well as at Necker Island and Ulusaba and was brought up in South Africa. She has a unique flair for creating mouth-watering dishes combining local produce with continental ideas and guests will delight in creative meals accompanied by fine wines. Kasbah Tamadot is a unique and beautiful destination where the magic of Morocco has been kept alongside every modern comfort and convenience.
SHARED SPACES
The Kasbah Tamadot is an extensive complex comprised of staircases, courtyards, rooms and gardens. Getting yourself orientated will be time consuming but exciting! On the ground level are two internal courtyards, an indoor pool, the Virgin Touch Salon, the Hammam and access to the outdoor pool and The Studio. A main stair leads up to a traditional Moroccan painted courtyard that surrounds a deep blue reflecting pool on the first floor. Opening from here are a series of bedrooms, a Guest Salon & Library and the restaurant. From our outdoor pool you can meander along pretty garden paths to our tennis courts. The roof top, complete with breathtaking views, houses 3 Deluxe Suites and a rooftop seating area where drinks can be served.
GUEST ROOMS
4 Superior Rooms, 5 Deluxe Rooms, 4 Superior Suites, 4 Deluxe Suites and 1 Deluxe Pool Suite with the main difference between these room types being their size and location. The Main Building has 15 rooms and suites and The Master Suite, located a few minutes walk away at the end of the garden, has three rooms including the Deluxe Pool Suite, and is generally hired privately as a 3 bedroom cottage.
Each room at The Kasbah is individual and has been designed according to its aspect and special antique features. The original design featured many artefacts that had been collected by the previous owner from all over Africa, India and The Far East. As a result there is a very eclectic series of elements including wooden ceilings, ancient chests, heavily carved cupboards and an assortment of every day bric-a-brac.
We have sought to enhance the sense of this being more of a house than a hotel, and have grouped all of these artefacts together as well as including a number of newly made pieces of furniture including specially designed beds, all of which are king size. All rooms include a collection of easy chairs, Moroccan poufs and/or sofas. For each room we have also designed a small cabinet which contains a mini bar. All rooms are equipped with the usual items you would expect of a luxury hotel such as bath robes, cd-players and hairdryers. Televisions with DVD players are available on request.

The Master Suite with Pool
The Master Suite is a miniature version of The Kasbah sitting out on a promontory and featuring three special rooms. The building itself is rich in architectural detail and affords complete privacy. Within there are a Deluxe Room and a Deluxe Suite at the lower level with a private pool, both generously laid out. These rooms can interconnect. On the upper floor is a compact Superior Room with shower and a huge roof terrace. This configuration is perfect for a larger party, or those seeking a true escape. Rooms within the Master Suite are generally not sold separately until within 2 months of arrival, depending on availability.
En-suite Bathrooms
The concept for bathrooms was to create an environment which feels exotic and yet simple, deliberately a long way from the shiny marble tiles of the corporate hotel world. The simplicity of the Moroccan tiled floor and walls contrasts with the smooth white free-standing bath in some rooms. In others there are large decorative openings into a sunken Moroccan bath. The lighting is atmospheric and the overall ambience is designed to be timeless. Please note that access to the bath and showers may be difficult for those with restricted mobility.
SPA
Guests are invited to spend time at the indoor pool and spa area. Here a dark blue tiled pool offers views to the lushly planted garden outside, with loungers around the edge. Off the pool room is a traditional Moroccan Hammam and sauna. There is a shower and changing rooms, along with two treatment rooms. These have been designed to create a truly relaxing experience and use a combination of tiles, timber and low lighting.
Kaunoun Restaurant
With an intimate fireside bar for pre-dinner cocktails, a stunning dining area complete with terrace dining and breathtaking views, we expect it to be THE restaurant to visit in Morocco. We have appointed Jean Mundell as Executive Chef. Jean, South African-born, trained in Raymond Blanc’s kitchen at Le Manoir aux Quat Saison before working for us at Ulusaba Private Game Reserve, then Necker Island. Jean left us 2 years ago to go travelling and we are delighted to welcome her back – our regular guests still ask for her! At Ulusaba and Necker Island, Jean showed a unique flair for creating dishes that combined the use local produce and flavours with continental ideas, often showing the combined influence being brought up in Africa with Raymond Blanc’s training. Our restaurant will welcome casual diners.
OUTDOORS
The grounds of The Kasbah Tamadot have been planted with a huge variety of evergreen and flowering plants. Within the stepped landscape is the pool complex; an upper terrace is surrounded by Greek columns and features a bar, while a grand staircase leads down to the infinity pool, reflecting the sky and affording spectacular views to the valley below and mountains above. Surrounding the pool edge are loungers along with chairs and tables for relaxation throughout the day. Beyond the pool is the path that leads to the tennis courts and The Studio.
