Marsiliana, nr Pitigliano, Maremma, Tuscany (Sleeps 13)

A classical honey coloured hunting lodge, Marsiliana is a delightful and attractive family home with stunning views across the Maremma countryside and mature terraced gardens.

Situated on the top of a hill, Marsiliana looks like a castle from the distance but on driving through the gate one discovers an enchanting hamlet consisting of Marsiliana, (originally known as the Castello), and other attractive buildings such as the granary and the watchtower. With a fountain gurgling in the courtyard and a plethora of geraniums planted in all sizes of terracotta pots, this is the Tuscany of picture postcards still untouched by modern intrusion.

Marsiliana was readapted into a residence during the 18th century with a winter and a summer quarter. As a family home, it has been carefully furnished giving it a traditional and comfortable atmosphere and a homely feel with paintings and pictures throughout. Large fireplaces in most of the rooms on the ground floor add character and warmth to the property and the fabulous fully equipped farmhouse kitchen is an excellent venue for preparing al fresco meals beneath the large wisteria covered pergola at the front of the house. From the ground floor, a door opens onto a staircase decorated in trompe d’oeil at the top of which is a landing leading to more bedrooms.

Outside, is a three tier garden with a profusion of citrus trees and palms with a pathway leading through the garden to the swimming pool. Views from the garden are magnificent as one gazes across the silvery olive groves to the sea in the distance. There is so much to do in this most attractive area be it walking along the beach, exploring the many cultural sites, visiting the Argentario peninsula and maybe visiting Giglio or Giannutri by boat or simply walking though the local woods collecting mushrooms and chestnuts. Families and friends alike will love Marsiliana – home from home in a magical location.
