Riad El Mezouar, Marrakech, Morocco (Sleeps 10)
One of the elegant palaces once owned by the Alaoui royal family, Riad El Mezouar is an undiscovered gem renowned for its excellent, friendly and welcoming service as well as its preserved traditional architecture, exquisite cuisine and a fabulous roof terrace.
Thoughtfully and sympathetically restored by its charming French owners Riad El Mezouar represents the real and authentic Marrakech. The property’s structure dates from the 18th century and has two columned galleries around all four sides giving access to the rooms on the ground floor, as well as those on the first floor, allowing guests to benefit from a magnificent example of the classic architecture of a riad. Traditional local materials have been used throughout and there is a wonderful eclectic collection of pieces from around the world including many original pieces from the Arabia and Asia. With its white walls throughout, stylish flowing drapes across the Moorish archways of the large galleries and many sitting areas in which to relax, Riad El Mezouar is a haven of calm and tranquility. With its contemporary yet traditional feel, each of the five bedrooms is entered through sumptuous historical doors richly carved in cedar wood and has been individually designed in a minimalist chic style with spacious bathrooms where one can relax one’s deep tadelakt bath with a chilled glass of wine.
Special mention must be made of the warm and friendly service at Riad El Mezouar where nothing is too much trouble and every guest is made to feel special. The charming owners and delightful Nadia, the manageress, create a memorable and warm experience for anyone who stays here. Delicious gourmet cuisine in the French and Oriental tradition is a highlight at Riad El Mezouar and meals can be served on the patio, in the salon or on the terrace where one can enjoy the exceptional views and absorb the sounds and smells of this magical city. A dip in the most attractive, green ceramic tiled courtyard pool fed by a marble fountain and bordered with white rose bushes and trees is delightful after a afternoon’s exploration around the souk or maybe a trip to the Atlas Mountains or alternatively, guests will love to simply sit and ‘be’ at this special hideaway in the heart of Marrakech.
