There is a welcoming homely feel to the entrance to Villa Flamingo. You are instantly put at ease by the rows of familiar and well thumbed English novels in the bookcase.  The very essence of the house and its incredible dining terrace surrounded by banana palms, olives and orange trees is that quintessentially British property with a wonderful Mediterranean flavour.   

The village is made up entirely of local fishermen and their families hence ordering at the restaurants is mostly done by the international system of sign language and pointing.  All is entirely delicious, especially the large prawns (gambas) in garlic and grilled sea bass – the local bread is excellent too and the wine slips down easily, especially in the knowledge that home is just a few minute walk away. 

The Villa can easily accommodate 12, if four single people or children want to share the large upstairs room, or it would be ideal for a party of 6, 8 or 10.  All the bedrooms are superbly finished and smartly decorated to the highest standard with every detail thought through.  There are hair dryers in the bedrooms and plenty of space in wardrobes and drawers for unpacking.  The clever mix of antique Turkish furniture and artwork together with upholstered headboards and bedspreads in the contemporary British style give a strong sense of permanence and belonging.  There are dressing gowns provided in the bathrooms and air-conditioning in all the rooms.  Your every comfort has been provided for.

The outside terraces are a dream. The two first floor double bedrooms open onto a large terrace where a pretty daybed strewn with gold organza hangings is discreetly placed.  As the sun rises over the inlet one could recline here to read, sleep, perchance to dream.  The rooftop area has large colourful cushions inviting one for fulltime sunbathing and the cabana behind the pool with its comfortable cushioned seats is perfect for lunchtime retreat from the sun.  The main decking area outside the kitchen has a large wooden table and chairs around which life revolves.  Candles are provided for attractive outdoor dining.

The charmingly unobtrusive couple who run the villa are there at your service should you require them. Fishing rods are provided for a little gentle sport from the jetty and freshly barbecued they make a delicious supper. The local fishermen can take you out to islands and hidden bays for a day trip with a picnic perhaps and for those more active there is a tennis club in Bodrum and access to all the water sports.  Villa Flamingo provides a perfect base providing entertainment for all the family from exploring ancient sites such as the tomb of King Mausoleus at Halicarnassus, the ancient name for Bodrum, to the largest open air disco in Europe funnily enough called the Halicarnas.
