The imposing gates to the property lead one into a marvellous oasis of comfort, luxury and calm. You pass through the courtyard to the drawing room decorated as you would expect from any large country house with high ceilings, fine furnishings, sofas, paintings and an open bar as in any private house. Large French windows open onto the huge terrace which would be the focus for outdoor dining and drinking. Beyond lie the expansive gardens with well maintained lawns and exotic plants and terraces where one can retreat for peaceful moments.
 The 16m x 6m pool is flanked by the ‘kheima’ or Moroccan style tent, which adds another original dimension to this amazing property.
The house is air-conditioned throughout and there are open fireplaces and heating for winter months. There are seven individually interior designed bedrooms with each with its own dressing-room, bathroom and terrace or balcony. For parties larger than 14 there is the owner’s pavilion with its private plunge pool which can be made available at an extra cost.
There are many games including a paddle tennis court, badminton, table tennis and a large garden chess set, not to mention the myriad of fascinating books to tempt the inquisitive. The house has a meeting/cinema room, plus a smaller second screening room with an extensive DVD library for both children and adults. Internet and email access is all set up.
The hammam, fitness centre and massage area are impressive even by hotel standards let alone in a private house. There is even your own hair-dressing salon. The staff start here at 8.30am so early morning activity is possible before the heat of the day.
Each day at breakfast a selection of menus of both Moroccan and European cuisines will be presented for your choices for the next few days. Evening drinks can be served on the roof top and after dinner drinks or coffee can be taken in the ‘kheima’ (tent).
Maria, the house manager, leads a permanent staff of ten which includes two full-time beauty/massage therapists, cooks, etc. Amina, who runs the kitchen, offers a delight to the senses of Moroccan colours and flavours. Mohamed, the steward, worked at the Mamounia for many years and will arrange any drinks or snacks throughout the day.
Local excursions can all be organised by Maria: from arranging historical city tours, visiting the foothills of the high Atlas with mule trips and country lunches, shopping trips to the souks or the French quarter with accompanying staff, or reserving a table at the best local restaurants for the occasional evening out.
