Built in 1860, Villa Giuseppina was the summer house of Gaetano Giorgio Gemmellaro, an eminent vulcanologist. This charming villa is still owned by the same Sicilian family. Villa Giuseppina occupies a secluded, elevated position with stunning views over the old town of Taormina, its ancient Greco-Roman theatre, the Ionic Sea and Calabria.
Although just a couple of minutes walk from the lively town centre, Villa Giuseppina is surrounded by a luxurious Mediterranean garden which contributes to the calm and quietness of the house. To reach the Villa, a pathway of steps takes you to the house through a Sicilian terraced garden planted with century old trees, bougainvillaea, lemon trees, almond trees, palm trees.
The Villa is built on 2 terraces. On the Upper level there is a living room with open fireplace, dining room and fully equipped kitchen. The Villa benefits from a long tiled terrace, where you can enjoy dining al fresco whilst taking in the beautiful panoramic views. There are also a double bedroom with ensuite bathroom, and a twin and single bedroom that share a bathroom. On the Lower level, there is a separate suite for the children and their Nanny, or your teenage children, with six bunk beds and a separate bathroom.
Taormina is situated on the slopes of Mount Tauro, in a fantastic location overlooking the sea. Its position makes it interesting to get to the beach: either by walking down or using the cable car!
In summer, the town boasts a film festival, theatre and concerts events from June to the end of September, attracting artists and stars from all over the world. There are many interesting shops and pretty restaurants. In autumn and spring, Taormina has its best weather. In winter, you can enjoy the calm and peace of a beautiful medieval village in panoramic surroundings and various events in the Greco Roman theatre.
A couple of minutes by car from Taormina, or a half day walk, you can visit Castelmola, a village and its ruined castle perched high on crags above the town. Further away you can visit the Alcantara River Natural Reserve, or have a day trip to Mount Etna or to Syracusa. The now beautifully restored Catania is only about one hour by car.
