This neo-classical villa emerges directly out of the lake facing the famous Grand Hotel Villa d’Este. Maria Serena is separated from the owner’s family house by an historic harbour flanked by ancient terracotta statues. This wonderful harbour is so perfect that when Emperor Joseph II found protection in it from a fierce lake storm in 1769, the property was declared by him ‘The House of the Emperor’. In the early nineteenth century, the two properties were restored by the celebrated dancer Maria Taglioni who, together with musicians such as Rossini, Lizst and Bellini, was drawn by the Lake and in particular Blevio.
Totally modernised to the highest level, Villa Maria Serena is luxuriously furnished with the finest Italian linens and antiques. All the bedrooms have spacious marble bathrooms in addition to electric windows and shutters, internet connection and air conditioning throughout. The impressive frescoed salon and dining room is elegantly furnished and enjoys direct access on to the lakeshore terrace – a magical venue for al fresco dining and gazing across the lake. The contemporary kitchen is extremely well equipped and also leads directly on to the terrace and porthole windows throughout provide plenty of light and enticing views in every direction. With its own underground parking and boat dock both connected directly to the house one can whiz across to Villa d’Este or to the enchanting villages along the lake with their fine restaurants.
Seven acres of luxuriant gardens and woods surround the property and a short walk takes one into the village of Blevio. Extremely comfortable and tastefully furnished, Villa Maria Serena is a unique find and arrival by seaplane can even be arranged!
