La Bastide’s formidable exterior, originally built to withstand the extremes of weather, belies the pretty interiors of this spacious and imposing property. One of the benefits of the structure is that the thick stone walls keep the heat out in summer and retain the warmth from the fires in the winter months, making this a very comfortable property all year round. 

The lodge has been lovingly renovated and interior designed to the highest specification by the owners of this private estate and would ideally suit three couples or a family. Alternatively, La Bastide can be taken with Mas d'Elodie, the renovated farmhouse that is just a few minutes walk across the field up the sloping hillside, extending your party size to 16 guests – please ask us for more details.

The three large bedrooms – two doubles and one twin - are all individually and stylishly decorated, each with their own en-suite bathroom laid out with fine towels and soaps. There are thoughtful touches everywhere and each room has a fine stone fireplace as a central feature.

On the ground floor there is a large formal drawing room with an impressive stone fireplace, comfortable sofas, antiques and paintings and pretty furnishings. A second smaller sitting room also has an open fireplace, with a satellite television and DVD player. The large kitchen also has an open fire and spacious dining area. 

Outside there is a large terrace with an attractive circular pagoda in wrought iron, perfect for dining al fresco. A short walk from the house is the impressively large swimming pool. This walled enclosure has an attractive fountain and pavilions at one end offering a large shaded dining area, together with a well equipped summer kitchen and barbecue area. From its gardens, one can enjoy countryside views of the oak forests on the hillside above, towards the mountains of the Luberon beyond.

La Bastide de Murs is a lovely child friendly lodge and a cot and high chair are provided on request.

The tennis court situated below Mas d'Elodie is available by arrangement with the caretaker who lives in cottage on the estate. It has a terracotta, quick-dry surface, best for withstanding local weather conditions and will provide opportunities for excellent exercise.

The local area is perfect for enjoying leisure activities such as walking, cycling, fishing or horseback riding. This area of France is well known for its antique and food markets. The Isle sur la Sorgue - a Venice-like town – is about half an hour away, and has around six hundred antique dealers and a thriving street market every weekend, plus a golf course. Kayaking down the river Sorgue, from the Fontaine de Vaucluse (a fully grown river which comes out of a cave) is also fun.
