Just an hour and a half from Athens you are transported into another world. The peace and quiet draws one into the ancient traditions and the continuity of the fertile valley which produces an astonishing range of fruit and nuts, alongside the extensive olive trees and large vineyards and in spring the blossoms transform the valley into a carpet of colours.

Set within secure walled grounds with automatic gates, High Groves is built on a hillside with commanding views over the cultivated valley from its several impressive terraces. The immaculately designed and landscaped garden also incorporates a charming herb garden into the stone patio – perfect for adding some traditional flavours to your cuisine. The large swimming pool is discreetly integrated into the well kept lawns and its position allows its occupants to enjoy the fabulous views. The service is excellent - the butler and his staff will ensure you have everything you need for your stay, whether it is a chilled poolside drink or suggestions for trips to experience the local area. A chef can also be arranged to serve you local speciality and international cuisine.

The house has seven bedrooms with en suite or private bathrooms, four of which are on the upper floor. The owners have furnished each room in a unique way, with different styles of bed – some four poster, some carved – and equally individual, with sumptuous bedlinen and coverings. The Master suite includes a separate dressing area, leading into twin luxurious bathrooms. Together with its own private terrace, this suite is sure to impress!

On the ground floor the reception rooms are formal, yet homely. The drawing room, library and dining room boast impressive cathedral ceilings with exposed beams. This accentuates the grandeur of the drawing room with its polished stone flooring and impressive marble fireplace, and one can access both the loggia and the terrace from here. The library’s elegant stone fireplace creates a cosy atmosphere which would be perfect for chilly winter evenings beside the log fire. The kitchen, pantry and breakfast area are all equipped to a high standard and lead into the dining room, which would also come into its own in winter months. All these rooms benefit from underfloor heating.

The stylish covered loggia gives extremely comfortable and cool outside seating and the generous terracing allows for varied al fresco dining options. Cocktails could be taken on the upstairs terrace and after-dinner star-gazing is perfect from the main terrace. The moon is often so bright that one can see one’s own shadow and a magical evening can be made complete with shooting stars that can often be seen in the Summer months.

On the lower ground floor are two double bedrooms. There is also a large home cinema and games room with billiard table. The manor benefits from a centrally-controlled music system with in-wall speakers that can operate in all reception areas and there is a high-speed internet connection.

Ancient Epidavros has much to offer, particularly in the summer months, where you can marvel at a greek play performed in the great amphitheatre, or enjoy a music festival in the 4th century small amphitheatre. Together with local shops, restaurants and crafts, there is the harbour and several beaches to enjoy, not to mention its close proximity to Athens for day trips out. Nearby ancient sites to visit are Olympia, Napflio and Mycenae. Nearby islands include Spetses with very few cars and horse-drawn carriages for transport, Pouros with the Sanctuary of Poseidon from 520BC and Hydra, popular with artists.
