Villa Bambou, Maillane, Provence, France (Sleeps 8 + 2)
|
 |
 |
Bambou is a stunning 19th century village house that has featured in numerous style magazines, beautifully decorated in traditional Provençal style yet with all the modern comforts you would expect.
|
HIGHLIGHTS
- Traditional Provencal village house
- Beautifully refurbished and decorated
- Private, secluded garden
- Ideal family villa
- Well equipped kitchen
- All amenities within walking distance
Bambou was impeccably refurbished several years ago by Gérard & Cléo Faivre, and has recently undergone further redecoration and improvement. The result is a very well-equipped, comfortable and spacious home. The interiors have been exquisitely designed to preserve the period style and original features.
Bambou’s location is perfect for guests who wish to immerse themselves in Maillane’s traditional village life: wandering over to the boulangerie to pick up your fresh breakfast baguette and croissants, enjoying an evening apéro in one of the café-bars in the village square, buying provisions at the small weekly market, joining in the fun at one of Maillane’s many festivals or celebrations…
The house has much to offer all year round: whether you prefer a cosy winter’s evening with a glass of local wine in front of a roaring log fire, or the Provençal summer sunshine, relaxing by the pool, Bambou is a magical experience at any time of year. The focal point of the house is an impressive beamed sitting room with comfy sofas set either side of a stone fireplace. The Snug is a little retreat: somewhere to escape the midday summer sun, to curl up and watch a movie, or a play area for kids. The adjoining ‘hearth’ room – a study with a large desk and a cupboard full of maps and local literature – is the obvious place to plan excursions or perhaps catch up on some emails.

There is a deceptively well-equipped kitchen where the appliances are cleverly hidden to maintain the traditional feel; an antique bayou displays a range of quality glasses and crockery, while the centrepiece is a beautiful zinc-top wooden table seating up to 10 adults. Outside, the traditional Provençal garden is small but perfectly formed with a bassin d'eau swimming pool (7m x 3m), a covered loggia – perfect for long lazy summer lunches – and an old stone fountain. The garden is generously planted with flowering shrubs, tilleul trees and bamboo (after which the house was named) and provides a peaceful, private sanctuary which, in spite of its village location, is not overlooked.

The bedrooms are all individually named and decorated, with the thoughtful touches that make a stay really special: Egyptian cotton linen, soft towels, sumptuous bathroom products, plentiful storage space. The Rose master bedroom has ‘his and hers’ en suite bathroom and separate monsoon shower room. ‘Miel’ is decorated in soothing yellow tones with separate twin beds and en suite bathroom. ‘Tilleul’ has original tomette tiled flooring and overlooks the tilleul tree that gives it its name. The Bleu double bedroom is characterful with its own angelic theme and old stone fireplace. The rustic ‘Grenier’ family suite on the top floor could be made available for extra guests or for additional children.
Bambou is tucked away off a quiet leafy lane in the peaceful village of Maillane, a destination in itself as well as the ideal place from which to experience one of the most charming and picturesque areas of the world: the famous market town of St Rémy de Provence, immortalised by Van Gogh in his paintings, and the area's many cultural highlights, such as Les Baux, the Pont du Gard, Avignon, Arles, and the Camargue. There is a wealth of top class restaurants and informal bistros in the area. A range of sporting activities are within easy reach: tennis, golf, horse riding, hiking, cycling and canoeing.
