Chateau de la Motte, with original parts built in the 16th and 18th centuries, is an elegant and spacious country house, lovingly restored by its owners to provide a pretty and comfortable family home, a perfect venue for extended families and friends. Together with its courtyard, outbuildings and a pigeonnier, the chateau is set in 17 acres of private estate comprising woodland and parkland and is surrounded by a picturesque moat.
The region has many attractions, yet would be tempting to pass all your time in the grounds of the chateau. Near the house is a parterre, gated courtyard, a hard tennis court and an enclosed heated pool and pool house. There are plenty of activities suiting all levels and abilities, from ping pong and boules to fishing in the moat, reading by a stream or sleeping in a hammock. Children can paddle in the stream, plot in the tree house or discover magical lands whilst exploring the woods.
Dining al fresco on the long tables under the shady trees is perfect for lunch or in the evening, where a barbeque can provide much entertainment for family and friends.
Inside the chateau, the ambience is of space and comfort, with excellent room proportions and attractive furnishings throughout. The large drawing room has an impressive open fireplace and, with the study and tv room, provide plenty of seating areas ensuring your guests never feel crowded. The study leads to a cosy library in the base of the 18th century tower.
The large kitchen has a charming cooking and dining area with a huge open fire and all the amenities suitable for a large party. Also on the ground floor are a playroom, laundry and cloakroom.
The bedrooms are all on the first and second floors. On the first floor are four large double bedrooms, three with adjoining or ensuite bathrooms. In addition are two twin and one single bedroom and they share a shower room. The second floor is reached by a fairly steep staircase, and would make an ideal family suite, with one double and one twin bedroom that share a bathroom.
The chateau is an easy four-hour drive from Calais, yet is in the heart of France on the border of Burgandy and Champagne. Paris and Eurodisney are within two hours drive, and there are many vineyards, .
The historic city of Troyes, awarded three stars by the Guide Michelin, is twenty kilometers away. Troyes abounds in restaurants, fine architecture and narrow mediaeval streets.
The estate is on the edge of the village of Rumilly les Vaudes and a region of rolling hills, vast forests and vineyards (Champagne, Chablis, Irancy). The house is a five minute stroll from the village's bar tabac and beautiful church, a five minute drive from good restaurants (one with a Michelin star) and other amenities.
