Jembisa is a fabulous family bush home made from local stone and thatch, set in the midst of its own private game reserve in the malaria free Waterberg of South Africa. The Palala River Reserve is an unspoilt wilderness of winding rivers, cliffs, gorges, beautiful forests and expansive plains, protected by a well-managed system of conservation. There is a great diversity of wildlife here and the bushmen, who lived here one thousand years ago, have left a great legacy in the form of rock and cave paintings.

Recommended by Conde Nast Traveller in their 'Kids on Safari' article as an ideal and affordable location to go on safari as a family , Jembisa Lodge is a beautifully designed family home. Its spacious rooms are decorated with natural materials in an Afro-colonial style and it has a warm, friendly character. The exclusive basis on which one takes it really lends it a ‘home away from home’ feel. Jembisa is ideally suited to families with children of all ages. In particular having all bedrooms within the lodge provides parents with peace of mind when staying within a game reserve. Another important advantage is that Jembisa is in a malaria free area.
There is no end to the activities available to keep the whole family amused. A personal driver will take you on game drives every day where you can confidently expect to see zebra, giraffe, eland and impala along with the more spectacular white rhino, leopard, hippo and crocodile. A personal, highly experienced game ranger will take you tailor-made bush walks, where - for the children - tracking game and discovering bugs are top priority.
A private Nanny is included to help look after the children and, to ensure you have some peaceful adult time too, children's meals can also be arranged.
Alternatively, one may elect to stay at the house, play a game of tennis, swim or relax by the natural salt water pool. For those seeking further relaxation, a massage can be arranged in your room or on the large secluded deck, also the perfect place to enjoy sundowners under the wide African sky.
The private chefs, from Malawi and South Africa, produce delicious meals using local fresh ingredients, many of which are home-grown in the organic kitchen garden. Meals can be varied according to one’s preference and the staff delight in providing picnics in the bush, dinner under the stars, lunch on the terrace and al fresco breakfasts and brunches. Being a family home, children are especially welcome and if one wishes, they can be provided meals to suit their own schedule and can be supervised in their own ‘bush’ activities, including tracking, bush skills & spoor identification, allowing the adults to relax and enjoy some time to themselves.
