HIGHLIGHTS
- Game lodge on private reserve
- Infinity plunge pool and waterfall
- Horseback game drives
- Perfect for both couples and families
- Beautiful views
Set atop a dramatic cliff, Ant’s Hill looks out over the wide plain of the Waterburg, stretching majestically into the distance and to the mountains on the horizon. The beautifully designed lodge takes full advantage of its spectacular position on a river gorge - home to a family of Rock Hyrax, who seem quite happy with their new neighbours - perfect for watching the sun set across the veld.
The hosts, Paul and Daleen, know the area well and are experienced field guides, having grown up in the South African bush. Their emphasis is on offering a truly personal and flexible safari - one can be as active or inactive as one wishes when given total exclusivity. Guests are ushered in through the main lodge, where the stunning 180o views are revealed. Natural stone and the finest local woods - wild olives and acacia - have been used in the creative design. Traditional building techniques combine with exotic furniture and brightly coloured fabrics from Zanzibar to good effect and result in a lodge that is luxurious in a very comfortable and homely way.
The open-plan and open-sided sitting and dining rooms offer breathtaking views of the gorge and waterfall and large folding doors can be closed in winter, when the evenings become cooler, for cosy relaxation around the roaring fire. The deck overhangs the gorge and guests can while away the afternoon here on planters chairs and loungers or stroll along a little way to the infinity plunge pool and bubbling waterfall.
Accommodation is divided between three chalets and the main lodge building, each unique in design and far apart, for privacy and quiet. Four poster beds and sunken baths abound and the stylish fittings include waterfall-showers and everywhere incorporate beautiful pieces of local timber and artwork.
Dining in the Boma one night and the lodge the next, picnics out on the plain or privately on one’s own veranda, at Ant’s Hill the lodge is yours and your perfect safari is guaranteed.
