Christmas in Assisi and Greccio

Spend a long weekend in Umbria, exploring two of the key locations in the life of St Francis beautifully decorated for Christmas. The first ever nativity was performed in Greccio after St Francis was inspired by a previous visit to Bethlehem. Now, every year the town comes together to create their own nativity scenes and celebrate Christmas with lots of festivities. There are beautiful Italian Christmas markets in Assisi, perfect for shopping for locally handmade, unique and special gifts. The long weekend is a well-balanced, relaxing trip focusing on remembering the reason for the season and enjoying all the festivities.

    The centre of Assisi is pedestrianised and on a hill, hence, a level of fitness is required to do this trip. The ground is sloped and slightly uneven.
