Pilgrimage to Burgundy, France with the Diocese of Northampton
With Bishop David Oakley
Sunday 19th - Friday 24th October 2025
You will be staying in the town of Paray-le-Monial, where French nun and mystic St Margaret Mary Alacoque received several apparitions of Jesus revealing his Sacred Heart in 1675. The 350th anniversary Jubilee concludes on June 27th 2025, the date of the Solemnity of the feast of the Sacred Heart. You will visit the Convent of St Gildard at Nevers where St Bernadette's incorrupt body lies in a glass shrine for pilgrims to pray before. You will visit Ars-sur-Formans, the home of St John Vianney, known for his humility and devotion to the sacrament of confession which inspired thousands to return to faith and receive God's forgiveness. News of his miraculous healings led to people coming to seek his spiritual guidance and yet he endured great hardship and many attacks from the devil. You will visit the remnants of The Abbey of Cluny founded in 910 becoming the first centre of Benedictine Monasticism in the Western Church. At the height there were 10,000 monks in 1200 monastic houses under its authority. You will also experience the peaceful, ecumenical community of Taize with its beautiful music, prayer and spiritual renewal.
