Every five years, the village of Sordevolo, in the foothills of the Italian Alps, stages one of Italy’s great Passion Plays. Hundreds of local people take part, retelling the final days of Christ in a large open-air amphitheatre.

In August 2027, join JC Journeys for a four-day pilgrimage through northern Italy, culminating in an evening performance of the Passione di Sordevolo.

We begin on Lake Orta, visiting the chapels of the Sacro Monte and crossing to the ancient Christian island of San Giulio, before continuing into the mountains to the Sanctuary of Oropa, home to the Black Madonna.

From Oropa, we travel to Sordevolo to learn about the history and preparation behind the Passion Play before taking our places for the evening performance.
