Pilgrimage to Ephesus & Pamukkale with St Paul
Ephesus, Pamukkale, Izmir - Western Turkey
Join us to explore the site of the one of the most important centres for the early Christian church walking in the footsteps of St Paul who lived here. Located on the western Aegean coast of Turkey, Ephesus (Efes in Turkish) was a strategic city of the Roman Empire and is home to fascinating relics. Tradition tells is that the Apostle John penned the Gospel of John here and cared for Mary, the mother of Jesus at a mountaintop house that we will visit. The remains of the apostle, Jesus called ‘the one He loved most’ are said to lie at the ruins of Basilica of St John and the site of Ephesus retains a unique spiritual and historic atmosphere. The city’s history stretches back to at least 1000 BC and its story includes rebuilding by the Emperor Constantine, destruction by an earthquake and Goths and being the stage for the Third Ecumenical Council in 431.
The site also holds the ruins of the ancient Roman Temple of Artemis, one of the seven wonders of the world.
