Pilgrimage to Subiaco & Montecassino with St Benedict

Rome, Italy

Trace the life of St Benedict, through Rome to Norcia, Subiaco and Montecassino. Born in Norcia, St Benedict studied briefly in Rome before living as a hermit in the mountains near Subiaco then founding the Abbey of Montecassino where he wrote the Benedictine Rule. We will visit the small Umbrian mountain towns and the monasteries and enjoy the local hospitality. Written in 516 for monastic communities ‘the Rule’ is followed by Benedictines throughout the world today and has profoundly sensible lessons for us all in today’s complex world.

Monte Cassino & Subiaco

Visit three centres of St Benedict's life which helped form him rule, still used today not just by the numerous religious orders but also for the reference document for the American Constitution and the British Army's Covenant.
